Recombinant Antibodies
The final evolution
Recombinant antibodies are the most secure method of production in terms of supply chain and the larger scales required as you head into advanced or clinical stages. If you know you will need a recombinant but are still in the Discovery stage, you typically will need to start with polyclonal and monoclonal steps to isolate the sequence of the antibody you will ultimately produce.
Ad Hoc production
If you have already isolated the VH/VL sequences elsewhere but would like to produce the recombinant with us, we can help! Some of the things we need to know in addition to the sequences are:
Original species and IgG subtype
Preferred cell line (typically HEK293 or CHO, but others available)
Required scale
Antibody Engineering
It is possible and relatively straightforward to do limited engineering steps such as IgG class switching or changing the constant region from one species to another (including humanization).
We have not tried mutational engineering or other more highly specialized sequence changes to date, and as of right now the permutations involved could make this rather expensive. As modeling capabilities improve, however, it is certainly possible this avenue may open up for all of us in the future.
